Food as Medicine in Vermont

In collaboration with local farms, health care providers across the state are beginning to prescribe fruits, vegetables, and other whole foods as part of comprehensive treatment plans, further strengthening Vermont’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and community health.

More about Food as Medicine

Food as Medicine programs in Vermont focus on integrating nutritious food into health care to prevent and manage chronic diseases. These programs provide medically tailored meals, nutrition education, and support to individuals with specific health conditions, recognizing the vital role that diet plays in overall health. By connecting patients with healthy food options and promoting better eating habits, these initiatives aim to improve health outcomes, reduce health care costs, and enhance the quality of life for Vermonters facing food insecurity or diet-related illnesses.
